VP says mass media should serve as information bridge for public

Bali (ANTARA) - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin has called on the mass media to play its role as the bridge of communication and information in educating the public amid the constant influx of information."The successive and constant flow of information poses a challenge to the media to be consistent in providing valid information, which can be a strength in building the civilization," Amin stated on Tuesday. The vice president also called on the media to strengthen its role in enhancing democracy, boosting inclusive economic recovery, and increasing public understanding of the sustainable development goals pursued by the government. min said that although the power of the media combined with technological advancements can be a new driving force to accelerate economic development, it can also potentially widen the gap between individuals. He expressed optimism that the AMS would provide inputs for broadcasters in Indonesia regarding the coverage of the upcoming 2024 general elections. "This summit, in relation to the elections, educates the people not to be provoked by matters that can divide the nation, particularly by composing accurate news and busting hoaxes," the vice president remarked. min also expressed hope that the mainstream media would clarify incorrect information and hoaxes circulating in society and serve as a bridge to promote peace at national, regional, and global levels.
