PM Congratulates Achievements of Agricultural Sector

Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen has expressed his appreciation over the achievements of the agricultural sector in 2022.

At the closing ceremony of the annual meeting of Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries held here this afternoon, Samdech Techo Hun Sen said agriculture remains a main potential sector of the country’s economic growth.

“Although the world has experienced the impact of COVID-19 and the negative effects of geopolitical rivalry, especially the Russian-Ukrainian war, Cambodian agriculture has played an active role in easing tensions of the economy, especially the food crisis and food price inflation,” he underlined.

H.E. Dith Tina, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, said last year Cambodia produced in total 34.7 million tonnes of crops, including 11.62 million tonnes of rice, with a surplus of 6.29 million tonnes.

At the same time, the Kingdom exported nearly 8.6 million tonnes of agro-products, a year-on-year increase of 7.8 percent, to 74 countries, generating almost US$5 billion, he pointed out.

Besides, Cambodia’s livestock population reached 65.2 million, up 8.8 percent compared to 2021, while the livestock for trade rose by 41 percent to 26.56 million heads, excluding the over 862,000 tonnes of fisheries and aquaculture products, added H.E. Minister.
