Environment Ministry is Developing an App for Protected Area Management

The Ministry of Environment has been developing an app capable of managing protected areas to increase the country's efficiency in protected area management. According to the ministry, the app has the feature of recognising borders of protected areas quickly and accurately everywhere, with no internet access requirement, and no cost and time to set up border posts and preserve forests in protected areas. Besides the app, the Ministry of Environment late last week provided 132 A0 and A3 size maps of protected areas to 21 provincial and 111 district and municipal administrations, reflecting another new achievement of the ministry in implementing the Royal Government's Pentagonal Strategy - 1 and in accordance with the greenness and sustainability of the ministry's Chakra Strategy. The Ministry of Environment is highly committed and has a clear strategic plan under the direct guidance of Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet in response to climate change and green economy promotion by turning Cambodia into a carbon-neutral country with forest cover expansion to 60 percent by 2050. Cambodia has in total 73 protected areas, covering a surface of approximately 7 million hectares, equivalent to 40 percent of the country's land area. Source: Agence Kampuchea Presse
