The situation in Bangladesh has largely normalised since the parliamentary elections on 5 January 2014. Nonetheless, there remains a potential for the security situation to deteriorate. Based on precedent, street protests could turn violent and lead to clashes with law enforcement agencies. The law and order situation is of concern and there have been reports of serious crimes committed over the past few weeks. Singaporeans travelling to Bangladesh, or those residing in the country, should continue to exercise vigilance and caution. Singaporeans are advised to purchase comprehensive travel insurance before travelling to Bangladesh. In addition, they are encouraged to eRegister with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at https://eregister.mfa.gov.sg so that we may contact them should the need arise.
