The Police have arrested three men, aged between 22 and 38 for their suspected involvement in a case of housebreaking and theft by night along Moonstone Lane, and dishonestly receiving stolen property.
24 June 2019 at about 11.30am, the Police received a report that an office along Moonstone Lane had been broken into. The suspects are believed to have stolen spectacle frames and electronic appliances.
Through ground enquiries and with the aid of CCTV footages, officers from Central Police Division arrested the two suspected housebreakers on the same day at about 11.00pm along Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3 and Hougang Street 91.
Following the arrest of the suspected housebreakers, the Police uncovered that the stolen spectacle frames were dishonestly retained by a third suspect. The Police arrested him on 25 June 2019 at about 1.30am along Tampines Street 81. About 450 stolen spectacle frames worth about $50,000 were recovered.
The two men involved in housebreaking will be charged in court on 26 June 2019 for housebreaking by night with common intention to commit theft punishable under Section 457 read with Section 34 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. If convicted, they are each liable to imprisonment for a term not less than 2 years and not more than 14 years.
The Police would like to advise all property owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures:
a. Secure all doors, roller shutters, windows and other openings with good quality grills and close-shackled padlocks when leaving your office/shop unattended, even for a short while; and
b. Install a burglar alarm, motion sensor light and/or CCTVs, to cover the access points into your premises. Ensure that they are tested periodically and in good working condition.
