SINGAPORE, A packed schedule for Malaysia's newly minted Foreign Affairs Minister Saifuddin Abdullah on the first day of the ASEAN meeting held in Singapore on Wednesday.

He is leading the Malaysian delegation to the 51st ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting/Post Ministerial Conferences and Related Meetings (51st AMM/PMC) until Aug 4, 2018.

Saifuddin, who assumed foreign minister portfolio on July 2, started his day by having his first bilateral meeting with South Korean counterpart Kang Kyung-wha followed by five other similar meetings.

He also attended an interface session with ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) representatives and meeting with the Southeast Asia Nuclear Weapon-Free Zone (SEANWFZ) Commission.

On Thursday, Saifuddin and other ASEAN foreign ministers are expected to pay a courtesy call on Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong before adjourning for the official opening of the 51st AMM and Related Meetings.

Later, the ministers are scheduled to witness the signing ceremony of the Instrument of Accession to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation (TAC) in Southeast Asia by Argentina and Iran.

They are also expected to attend the ASEAN�Japan Ministerial Meeting which then followed by meetings with Russia, China and New Zealand.

Singapore holds ASEAN chairmanship for 2018.
