The National Schools Xinyao Singing and Songwriting Competition is now open to all students in secondary schools, pre-universities, polytechnics and the ITE. The competition will kick off with a series of Xinyao music appreciation sessions in 20 schools. For the first time, a Xinyao music appreciation songbook will also be published in conjunction with this year's competition.
2. Apart from lyrics and guitar scores of 15 Xinyao songs, the songbook contains activities and word games related to the compositions. It also includes artwork by local artist Ah Guo, who is the illustrator for the book. It will be distributed to students at the appreciation sessions to boost their interest in the learning of the Chinese language. Students can also learn about Xinyao and its development during these sessions.
3. Now in its third year, the competition will have three categories: Solo, Group and Songwriting. The National Schools Xinyao Singing and Songwriting Competition is organised by the Committee to Promote Chinese Language Learning, and co-organised by Lianhe Zaobao, Jurong Junior College and local music production company, TCR Music Station.
