In response to media queries on the beheading of US journalist Steven Sotloff, the MFA Spokesman said:

“Singapore strongly condemns the brutal murder of American journalist Steven Sotloff by the Islamic State  in Iraq and Syria (ISIS).  We extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Mr Sotloff and reiterate our call for all hostages to be released immediately.  ISIS, and what it represents, is a real and present danger to countries in the Middle East as well as the rest of the world.  There is a critical need for the international community to work closely together to counter this threat.”
