Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan will visit Medan in North Sumatra Province and Batam in Riau Islands (KEPRI) Province from 29 to 30 August 2017.

Minister Balakrishnan will officiate at the upgrading of the Consulate of the Republic of Singapore in Medan to the Consulate-General of the Republic of Singapore in Medan on 29 August 2017, and the upgrading of the Consulate of the Republic of Singapore in Batam to the Consulate-General of the Republic of Singapore in Batam on 30 August 2017. The upgrading of our Consulates in Medan and Batam reflects Singapore's commitment to expanding cooperation and deepening our ties with Indonesia at the regional level.

Minister Balakrishnan will also attend the Singapore National Day Receptions in Medan and Batam. The receptions in both cities are held in conjunction with the commemoration of 50 years of diplomatic relations between Singapore and Indonesia in 2017.

In Medan, Minister Balakrishnan will meet key provincial leaders and host lunch for Medan-based entrepreneurs. In Batam, Minister Balakrishnan will meet KEPRI Governor Nurdin Basirun and business leaders from a wide range of sectors.

Minister Balakrishnan will be accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Economic Development Board.
