In conjunction with the Maybank Global Corporate Responsibility (CR) Day, some 46 Maybank employees collaborated with the Centre for Student Development and Innovation (CSDI) of Politeknik Brunei (PB) for a mini charity carnival yesterday at the PB parking lot in Ong Sum Ping.
Themed “Inspiring Communities Globally”, Maybank Global CR Day is dubbed the largest single community programme undertaken simultaneously in one day – a day celebrated amongst the 19 countries in which Maybank operates.
This particular Maybank CR Day carnival was initiated to raise funds for Pusat Ehsan Al-Ameerah Al-Hajjah Maryam and Brunei’s Society for Management of Autism Related issues in Training, Education and Resources (SMARTER). In addition to some 36 participating vendors, the charity carnival also saw performances, photography competition and several activities and games for all to enjoy.
Present to officiate the event’s launching were the guests of honour, Alias bin Haji Abu Bakar, Acting Assistant Director of PB and Bobby Sia, Maybank Acting Country Head and General Manager who gave a welcoming speech.
The collaboration between Maybank Brunei and the CSDI began in May this year through Maybank’s involvement in Politeknik’s social responsibility and civic engagement programme, the 3P Programme (Program Pelajar Politeknik Penyayang). The carnival is a testament of the strengthening relationship between Maybank Brunei and PB in pursuit of mutual collaborative efforts.
Maybank Brunei employees joined their counterparts from the Maybank Group’s global network of offices across Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, Bahrain, India, London and New York – totalling up to 22,000 staff dedicated to reaffirm their commitment to social development and welfare as well as environmental conservation through various community programmes.
Maybank has taken up 93 initiatives across the Group which included various community projects with special children, the elderly, the disabled, single mothers, orphans as well as the environment. The Global CR Day was first held in 2010 in conjunction with Maybank’s 50th anniversary – an inaugural participation of some 10,000 members of its personnel.
The number of participants has increased more than twofold this year, reflecting the strong volunteerism spirit among employees in participating in this unique global volunteerism programme.
