A 39-year-old man will be charged in court on 16 April 2019 for using threatening words which were likely to cause alarm, under Section 4(1)(a) of the Protection from Harassment Act (POHA), Chapter 256A.

On 10 September 2018 at about 9.50pm, the Police received a report on an online video depicting a man shouting gang-related slogans at a dinner event. Police investigations revealed that on 7 September 2018, the man was performing as a Getai singer at a lunar 7th Month festival event held at a carpark located in Yishun. During his performance, the man had shouted gang-related slogans which were heard by the attendees of the event.

Under Section 4(2) of the POHA, Chapter 256A, anyone found guilty of causing harassment, alarm or distress shall be liable to a fine not exceeding $5,000.

The Police take a very stern view of anyone threatening the public peace, and will spare no effort to ensure that offenders are brought to justice and face the full brunt of the law.
