The Police are investigating a 34-year-old man who is believed to have lodged a false report.

On 5 September 2018, the man lodged a report, alleging that five unknown men had assaulted and robbed him along Woodlands Industrial Park E5.

During the course of investigations, officers from Jurong Police Division detected several inconsistencies in the man's account. It was established that he had provided false information to the Police.

Investigations against the man are ongoing. Anyone convicted for giving any information which he or she knows to be false to a public servant shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to one year, or with fine which may extend to $5000, or with both.

The Police would like to remind the public that police resources could have been put to better use in dealing with real crimes and emergencies than investigating into false reports or false information. Those who lodge false police reports or provide false information will face serious consequences under the law.
