Briefing on SME development funds
The State Council is scheduled to hold a media briefing today at the State Council Information Office. Officials from the National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Finance are expected to introduce policies and measures involving the establishment of development funds for small and medium-sized enterprises. The briefing is open to reporters from home and abroad.
Singapore holds general election
Singaporeans head to the ballot boxes today, in an election which will see opposition parties contesting all 89 parliamentary seats for the first time in the city-state.
Indian-Australian naval drills roll out
The first joint Indian-Australian naval drills, titled Ausindex, will begin tomorrow, the Australian High Commission in India said. The weeklong maritime exercise, which includes surface and anti-submarine exercises as well as shore-based tasks, will take place in the eastern Indian city of Visakhapatnam and in the Bay of Bengal.
Kung fu practitioners to fight for top spot
The 10th National Martial Arts Tournament is set to be held in Guiyang, capital of Guizhou province, from today till Sunday. More than 300 martial artists from 31 major traditional kung fu schools, including Shaolin and Wudang, are expected to showcase their prowess at the event.
Increasing awareness of birth defects
Tomorrow marks Birth Defects Prevention Day, which aims to raise public awareness of the impact of birth defects and the importance of preventing them. Authorities are also rolling out a weeklong nationwide campaign to raise awareness of the defects. A baby with a birth defect is born every 20 seconds in China, according to the National Health and Family Planning Commission.
