Cambodian Jiu-Jitsu Fighter Claims Gold Medal in Women’s Ne-Waza NOGl-52Kg

Jiu-Jitsu fighter Khan Jessa got a gold medal in Women’s Ne-Waza NOGl-52Kg from the 32nd Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) after winning the Filipino fighter.

In the afternoon tournament, Jessa defeated Jiu-Jitsu fighters from Vietnam, Singapore, and Thailand before winning over the world’s No. 4 Jiu-Jitsu fighter from the Philippines.

The final round was the most interesting competition. Cambodia’s world champion Khan Jessa and Filipino Ochoa Margarita started with the same moves, and earned the same score, before Jessa finally knocked her rival by submission at 3:02 minutes.

In the Women’s Ne-Waza GI 52kg event on May 4, the Cambodian-Mexican-American Khan Jessa got a silver medal after losing 2-0 to the Filipino fighter.

The 32nd SEA Games, held in Cambodia for the first time in 64 years, will see athletes competing in 579 events across 36 sports, including football, athletics, gymnastics, swimming, badminton, golf, and so on as well as two Cambodian traditional martial arts, namely Kun Bokator and Kun Khmer.

Running until May 17, the games are free for all as Cambodia covers the expenses of food and accommodation for all foreign athletes, coaches and delegates, provides free tickets for all spectators, and grants free live broadcast rights to local and foreign TV networks.

As of May 7 (16:00), Cambodia topped the medal tally list, claiming a total of 62 medals, 26 of which are gold medals.

Cambodia won nine gold, 13 silver and 41 bronze medals in the 31st SEA Games in Vietnam in 2022.
