The powerhouse wood pushers of reigning champion BIR Revenue Region (RR) No. 8, Makati City once again proved to everyone that they are the top chessers of the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) after emerging as champions of the BIR Chess Tournament last June 24, 2015.
The feat earned them a "three-peat" after they were also crowned as champions of the last two (2) stagings of the said chessfest. RR No. 7 - Quezon City settled for second place while BIR National Office (NO) came in third.
RR No. 8 - Makati City also swept the top honors in the top three (3) boards of the tournament. Philip King Cartagena topped Board 1 besting Isagani Rada of RR No. 6 - Manila and Romeo Almazan of BIR NO who settled for second and third, respectively. In Board 2, Domingo Estacion was tops followed by Edrin Montreras of RR No. 9 - San Pablo and Norjeana Pangcatan of BIR NO. Board 3 saw Roel Dagan leading the pack, Conrado Gregorio of RR No.9 - San Pablo, second, and Christian De Dios of RR No. 7 - Quezon City, third.
Other medalists were: Board 4 - 1. Edward Manguera of RR No. 9 - San Pablo, and 2. Dimple Carbonell of RR No. 6 - Manila; Board 5 - 1. Ruleo Badilles of RR No. 7 - Quezon City, and 2. Mae Llantada of RR No. 6 - Manila; and Board 6 - 1. Nestor Caballero of BIR NO, and 2. Emmanuel Perez of RR No. 7 - Quezon City.
Isagani Rada of RR No. 6 - Manila topped the Individual Blitz Chess Event. Romeo Almazan of BIR NO was second and Roel Dagan of RR No. 8 - Makati City landed third.
International Arbiter Elias Lao, Jr. and FIDE Arbiter Edmund Gatus of the National Chess Federation of the Philppines oversaw the tournament proceedings. Tournament Director was Reymarie de la Cruz of the Public Information and Education Division. (BIR)
