Phnom Penh: Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet emphasized that the Angkor Sankranta festival is intended for all Cambodian citizens and international visitors, dismissing claims that it is exclusively for the Hun family.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, during the graduation ceremony for over 4,400 students at the Vanda Institute in Phnom Penh, held at the Koh Pich Convention and Exhibition Centre, the Prime Minister clarified that the event is organized by young leaders to boost tourism in Cambodia. This statement came in response to criticisms from some analysts about the festival’s organization by the Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia (UYFC), led by H.E. Hun Many, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Civil Service.
The Prime Minister highlighted that the festival aims to benefit everyone, particularly by enhancing the tourism sector in Siem Reap province through various entertainment activities. The Angkor Sankranta, which began in 2013, will celebrate its 12th year from April 14 to 16, under the theme “Smile to Celebrate the New Year.”
UYFC President H.E. Hun Many assured that the Angkor Sankranta 2025 will feature a wider array of activities at six locations, including the Angkor Wat Temple Complex and Pub Street. Planned events include the Angkor Heartbeat Show, Khmer chess tournaments, martial arts demonstrations, and traditional dances, among others.
