Cambodia to Help Timor-Leste Improve Agricultural Production

Cambodia will send its agricultural experts to Timor-Leste to study the soil condition in order to help the latter improve its agricultural production.

The dispatch plan was announced by Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, in a meeting here at the Peace Palace this afternoon with visiting former President of Timor-Leste H.E. Kay Rala Xanana Gusmao, according to H.E. Eang Sophalleth, Personal Assistant to the Cambodian Premier.

Regarding the ASEAN Community, Samdech Techo Hun Sen recommended Timor-Leste to pay attention to the three pillars of ASEAN, namely the ASEAN Political-Security Community, ASEAN Economic Community, and ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community.

Besides, Samdech Techo Prime Minister thanked H.E. Kay Rala Xanana Gusmao for his presence at the official opening ceremony of the SEA Games-ASEAN Para Games 2023 in Cambodia on May 5, which made the event more solemn.

For his part, the former president of Timor-Leste expressed his surprise with the rapid development of Cambodia and congratulated Samdech Techo Hun Sen and the whole Cambodian people on the glorious opening ceremony of SEA Games-ASEAN Para Games 2023, stressing that it is the first time that he witnessed such a great historical event.

H.E. Kay Rala Xanana Gusmao took the opportunity to thank the Royal Government of Cambodia for its support for Timor-Leste’s ASEAN membership and for its assistance in the fight against COVID-19, and asked Cambodia to consider its possibility to assist Timor-Leste in the field of agriculture in order to reduce its dependence on food import.

25 Sports with Many Different Events on Competition List Today

There are at least 25 types of sports with many different events on the competition list today, while Cambodian athletes continue to perform well.

The 25 sports include Aquatics, Basketball, Billiards, Boxing, Ouk Chaktrang, Cricket, Cycling, E-Sports, Football, Hockey, Karate, Jiu-Jitsu, Kun Bokator, Kun Khmer, Vovinam, Obstacle Race, Penchak Silat, Petanque, Sailing, Sepak Takraw, Soft Tennis, Tennis, Duathlon, Volleyball, and Teqball.

The competitions will take place at different venues in Phnom Penh capital and the provinces of Siem Reap and Preah Sihanouk.

Cambodian athletes have so far achieved good performances, claiming in total 41 medals as of May 6, including 19 gold, 11 silver and 11 bronze.

In the previous SEA Games in Vietnam, Cambodia won 63 medals – nine gold, 13 silver and 41 bronze.

Over 12,000 athletes from 11 participating countries are set to compete in 37 sports with 581 events – 304 for men, 229 for women and 48 mixed – at the SEA Games 2023 under the motto of “Sport: Live in Peace” from May 5 to 17.

SEA Games’ Opening Ceremony Captures People’s Hearts

The Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia this morning expressed his satisfaction with the opening ceremony of the 32nd SEA Games and the 12th ASEAN Para Games last night, stressing that it captured the hearts of the Cambodian people, sports delegates from all countries, national and international guests.

Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen made the comments on his official Facebook page this morning.

The amazing arrangements and performances of artists allowed the world to know more about the glorious history of Cambodia in ancient times and the current progress of Cambodia, he added.

“SEA Games 2023 is a historical event that the Cambodians have waited for 64 years. Every Cambodian is very proud and excited to see such unprecedented great historical event,” the Cambodian Premier underlined.

“All Cambodians are the hosts of this great event, so please join hands to support [the event] with a smile, pride and national dignity,” Samdech Techo Hun Sen continued.

Tit Sophavattey, one of the over 60,000 Cambodian spectators at the Morodok Techo National Stadium, said the opening ceremony of the SEA Games-ASEAN Para Games 2023 was a fabulous and amazing event. “We cannot imagine how we can hold such a great opening ceremony,” she added. “I didn’t expect we could organise such amazing scenes at the Morodok Techo National Stadium yesterday.”

All the performances and shows at yesterday’s opening ceremony constitute a clear message to the region and the world that Cambodia now can hold any international and regional events, Sum Panha, a senior citizen said.

“I’ve never seen such a fabulous event before even though I didn’t have a chance to watch directly at the new stadium,” he said.

According to the Cambodian SEA Games Organising Committee (CAMSOC), there are about 25 sports on today’s competition programme, including Boxing, Football, Kun Khmer, Kun Bokator, Pencak Silat, Sailing, Hockey, Volleyball, Jiu-Jitsu, Athletics, Obstacle Race, Triathlon, Cricket, Ouk Chaktrang (Chess), E-sports, Karate, Soft Tennis, Petanque, Vovinam, Swimming, Mountain Bike, Basketball, Sepak Takraw, and Teqball.

Cambodia has so far bagged eight gold medals in Kun Bokator, Jiu-Jitsu, Aquathlon, Vovinam, and Ouk Chaktrang (Chess), making the Kingdom temporarily at the top of the Medal Table.

Free Express Bus for SEA Games and ASEAN Para Games Spectators

Phnom Penh capital administration has announced an operation of express bus lines for live spectators of the 32nd SEA Games and 12th ASEAN Para Games in Cambodia.

The notification was issued on May 5, specifying that both Cambodian and foreign spectators can take the express bus free of charge from May 5 to June 9.

The first line of the express bus connects the stop at Koh Pich through Preah Sisowath quay to the stop at Morodok Techo Stadium.

The second line links the stop at Olympic Stadium through Russian and Monivong boulevards to the stop at Morodok Techo Stadium.

The express bus lines will be operated by the Phnom Penh City Bus Authority.

SEA Games 2023: Cambodia Defeats Singapore 1-0 in Women’s Football

A Women’s Football match between Cambodia and Singapore at the SEA Games 2023 was held at the Smart RSN Stadium in Phnom Penh this evening.

The Cambodian host team knocked the Singaporean team 1-0 by Moeurn Kunthea at the 77th minute.

Earlier on the same day, when Vietnam won Myanmar 3-1 in Group A, Thailand defeated Lao PDR 6-0 in Group B.

On May 3, Cambodia beat Laos 2-0 by Dy Sothea who scored the first two goals at the 10th and the 37th minutes in their first match in Group B of Women’s Football while Singapore lost to Thailand 0-4 for the same event.

Besides Laos and Singapore, Cambodia will meet Thailand on May 9.

Happening from May 3 to 15, Women’s Football tournament is held at two stadiums, the Army Stadium (Old Stadium) for Group A, and the Smart RSN Stadium for Group B, with eight participating countries.

While Group A consists of Vietnam, the Philippines, Myanmar, and Malaysia, Group B includes Cambodia, Thailand, Laos, and Singapore.

Six More Gold Medals for Cambodia in Kun Khmer, Sepak Takraw and Jiu-Jitsu

Cambodia this afternoon claimed six more gold medals – two in Kun Khmer, three in Sepak Takraw (Men’s, Women’s and Mixed Chinlone), and one in Jiu-Jitsu – at the 32nd SEA Games being hosted by Cambodia.

With the new gold medals, the Kingdom earned now in total 18 gold medals in Kun Bokator, Jiu-Jitsu, Aquathlon, Vovinam, Ouk Chaktrang (Chess), Soft Tennis, E-Sports, Kun Khmer and Sepak Takraw (Chinlone), making the Kingdom temporarily at the top of the Medal Table.

Some 25 sports competitions are on today's programme – Boxing, Football, Kun Khmer, Kun Bokator, Pencak Silat, Sailing, Hockey, Volleyball, Jiu-Jitsu, Athletics, Obstacle Race, Triathlon, Cricket, Ouk Chaktrang (Chess), E-sports, Karate, Soft Tennis, Petanque, Vovinam, Swimming, Mountain Bike, Basketball, Sepak Takraw, and Teqball.

Cambodian Vovinam Athletes Grab More Gold Medals

Cambodian Vovinam athletes this afternoon brought more gold medals to the nation, at the 32nd SEA Games at the Chroy Changvar International Convention and Exhibition Centre in Phnom Penh.

Mr. Eh Virekkaamchhit Phouthong , a gold medalist in the 31st SEA Games in Vietnam in 2022, won a gold medal after defeating his Thai counterpart Mr. Chainarong Yawanophat 4-3, while Mr. Ly Boramy, who already earned a gold medal in Men's Individual Self Defance Show this morning, won another gold medal in Men's Knife Show.

Besides, Met Sary, Ny Tiza, Men Sokvicheka, and Im Laingchhong clinched a gold medal in men’s team.

Cambodia has so far grabbed 13 gold medals in Kun Bokator, Jiu-Jitsu, Aquathlon, Vovinam, Ouk Chaktrang (Chess), Soft Tennis, and E-Sports, making the Kingdom temporarily at the top of the Medal Table.

Soft Tennis and E-Sports Bring Two More Medals to Cambodia

Cambodia this afternoon earned two more gold medals in Soft Tennis and E-sports at the 32nd SEA Games that the Kingdom is hosting.

One gold medal was won by Ms. Khun Chanrosika and Mr. Sam Chankaby in Soft Tennis’ Mixed Doubles event at the National Olympic Stadium, after defeating their Lao opponents 5:3.

Another gold medal was obtained by Mr. Sao Rithchesda for E-sport in Attack Online 2 (AK2) Individual at NagaWorld 2, while his fellow Cambodian Mr. Sron Chanthoeurn got a silver medal at the same event.
