Traffic Accidents Drop by Five Cases on Second Day of Khmer New Year

Number of road accidents decreased by 5 cases on April 15, the second day of Khmer Traditional New Year, compared to the same period in 2022, said a report of the General Commissariat of National Police released on Saturday.

There were in total 20 road accident cases, killing 7 people and injuring 48 others, the same source added.

On the first day of Khmer New Year holiday, six road accidents were recorded across the country, a year-on-year decline of 3 cases, resulting in two deaths and 12 injuries.

Excessive speeding, disrespect of the priority rights, drink driving, not wearing helmet, overtaking and turning in dangerous situation are among the major causes of road accidents in Cambodia.

Competent authorities once again urged for the public's attention to the respect of traffic laws.

Indonesia aims to secure Rp30 trillion in investment at Hannover Messe

Ministry urges fish medicine producers to have certification

Sok Lim Heng Crowned Cambodian Chess Champion 2023

Mr. Sok Lim Heng from Phnom Penh capital won the title of “Sdech Ok” (King of Chess) after beating Mr. Chheav Bora from Kampong Cham province in the final round of the Cambodia Chess Competition 2023, held this morning in front of Angkor Wat Temple in Siem Reap province.

The event, televised live by Bayon TV, was presided over by H.E. Thong Khon, Minister of Tourism and President of National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC) and H.E. Hun Many, President of Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia (UYFC).

Mr. Sok Lim Heng, the Chess Champion in 2018, won a cash prize of 10 million Riel (some 4,050 Riel equal to US$1), while the two runners up, Mr. Chheav Bora, who was “Sdech Ok” for two consecutive years (2014-2015), and Mr. Heng Saody got 6 million Riel and 4 million Riel, respectively. Mr. Lim Phalla, who came in the 4th place, obtained 800,000 Riel.

In addition, Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen and First Lady awarded the champion with 20 million Riel, the 2nd winner with 12 million Riel, the 3rd winner with 8 million Riel, and the 4th winner with 4 million Riel.
