Mowilex Wins Big at 2021 Global CSR Awards

Mowilex has launched Cendana Kayu Besi, a lead-free solvent paint for wood and metal

JAKARTA, Indonesia, Dec. 21, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Paint manufacturer PT Mowilex Indonesia won three major awards at the 13th Annual Global CSR Summit & Awards, once again earning recognition for its environmental, employee and community commitments.

Organized by Singapore-based Pinnacle Group International, the Global CSR Awards recognize innovations across 16 corporate social responsibility (CSR) categories, including environmental protection, community empowerment, gender equality and workplace diversity. More than 100 global and regional brands submitted some 350 entries for this year’s awards.

Mowilex won three 2021 Global CSR Awards, standing out among companies with a market capitalization of US$500 million to $1 billion.

“These awards validate Mowilex’s commitment to being an ethical and contemporary market leader, both within Indonesia and globally,” says Mowilex Indonesia CEO Niko Safavi.

“We’re Indonesia’s only CarbonNeutral®-certified manufacturing company. We voluntarily introduced lead-free paints two years ahead of United Nations goals. We took bold steps to help community members during the pandemic. Through our comprehensive environmental, social and governance [ESG] efforts, Mowilex works incredibly hard to protect the planet, manage resources, fight poverty and provide opportunities for all.”

Best Workplace Practices: Platinum

Mowilex won its first Best Workplace Practices Award thanks in part to its ground-breaking pandemic response.

Managers established a COVID-19 Emergency Response Team in March 2020. Mowilex teams produced and donated 16,000 bottles of hand sanitizer, 26,000 face masks and 14,000 medical-grade personal protective equipment (PPE) items. The company paid the full salaries of all its employees, even during pandemic shutdowns. Employees received COVID-19 test kits from Abbott Laboratories, a global testing leader, and regular testing, self-assessments and vaccination rate monitoring continue.

At the same time, volunteer employees distributed staple foods to underserved families near Mowilex facilities.

Mowilex also welcomed over 1,200 members of its workforce to professional development programs in 2020 alone. More than 100 took part in Lean Six Sigma training, while the first Mowilex Future Leaders program drew more than 15,000 applicants. Meanwhile, a performance-based bonus structure rewarded salespeople with up to 18 months of wages.

CSR Leadership Award: Gold

Mowilex earned its Gold CSR Leadership Award one year after winning for environmental excellence and its hindari (avoid), kurangi (reduce), imbangi (offset) sustainability strategy.

In September, Mowilex launched Mowilex Pasti Aman (Safe and Sure With Mowilex), a four-month voluntary replacement program to remove old Mowilex lead paint from stores. Shops and distributors across Indonesia receive free products when they return Mowilex formulas manufactured before 2019, the year the company began its lead-free transition.

Mowilex also renewed its CarbonNeutral® certification in 2020, following rigorous Natural Capital Partners standards. To reach carbon neutrality, the company invests in offset projects that promote biodiversity and support sustainable economic development in places such as the Rimba Raya Biodiversity Reserve in Kalimantan. Mowilex is planting 50,000 carbon-trapping mangrove trees together with Indonesia’s Environment and Forestry Ministry, and it funded a Natural Capital Partners offset project that installed 170,000 small-scale biogas plants across Vietnam.

Best CEO Award: Platinum

Safavi, who stepped into his post as CEO in 2019, earned platinum honors in the 2021 Best Chief Executive Officer category. He has brought positive changes to the company through his strategic planning and vision, employee development efforts, and digital and cultural transformation initiatives. He is working to attract new talent, promote inclusivity and diversity, empower women, decrease employee turnover and ensure fair employee rewards and recognition while also continuing shareholders’ sustainability commitments.

Under Safavi’s leadership, Mowilex is expanding with a new state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Tangerang, Banten.

“I received this award because there is no ‘Best Management Team’ category. I couldn’t manage this company without the support and dedication of my talented colleagues. We create innovative, high-quality products and build customer trust as a team, and we lead with comprehensive ESG campaigns that benefit Indonesia and the wider region,” Safavi said.

Pinnacle Group International director Melvin Chan noted that Mowilex’s CSR programs were well structured and executed, and, in large part, reflective of the strong leadership and support by the company’s CEO and management team.

“The programs have a clear vision and measure for long-lasting change. The organization’s staff is well resourced, highly trained and engaged with stakeholders in the community,” he said.

THE TECHNOLOGY THAT REVOLUTIONIZES THE ELECTRONIC DESIGN OF CONNECTED PRODUCTS: MICROEJ VEE

In order to accelerate the development of smart devices and to democratize the programming and electronic design of such products, MicroEJ uses containerization technology. It allows users to create an efficient and reliable process by parallelizing the software and hardware development.

The software application container is a widely used technology that allows for the creation and execution of a software component for a multitude of divergent electronic systems. The development of a device involves a complex organization of different roles that must be organized efficiently. The containers standardize the various roles and enable the reuse of existing software and hardware components for faster time-to-market. This process is similar to a fast assembly of existing components, sometimes slightly modified.

INTRODUCTION TO FRED RIVARD, CEO

After receiving his PhD in Computing, Fred RIVARD went to North America to become part of the IBM core team that led to the creation of the software container technologies for PCs. After completing his MBA, Fred founded MicroEJ with the mission to democratize software container for the embedded world. “Since the creation of MicroEJ, I am proud to see our growing business made possible thanks to faithful partners and awesome employees based around the world, contributing to our customers successes at creating useful electronic devices which is extremely rewarding for the teams. It materializes our commitment to a better world, where technology contributes to solve everyday issues and tasks,” says Fred RIVARD

MICROEJ, THE TRUSTED PARTNER THAT INTEGRATES ACROSS ALL MARKETS

Today, more than 120 companies use MicroEJ technology and its application container MICROEJ VEE. The main objective is to increase the efficiency of the “idea-design-production-maintenance” chain in order to respond as quickly as possible to customer needs and maintain a competitive advantage.

“Nowadays, things are moving so quickly. IoT is moving, use cases are changing. Imagine if we could have a way to go faster, and develop applications on top of that real time (printing engine) and keep them separated, keep them managed, so that we are delivering real time. Our partnership with MicroEJ allowed us to solve that problem.

Victor Salmons, Vice President, New Product Development, ZEBRA Specialty Printing Groupe

“We are especially proud to be working with MicroEJ to accelerate the integration of the Enki ecosystem. The realization of a universal cloud protocol allows our partners to independently integrate their products with the Enki cloud and benefit from easy-to-use software tools to accelerate their software development. This realization translates into a significant increase in Enki-compatible connected devices and a better user experience for our customers.”

Pierre-Yes Hadengue, CEO at Enki Leroy Merlin

“We chose MicroEJ to save time. It is a flexible, reliable and secure solution which we are very satisfied with. We didn’t have any return of this product. This is something very important for us since the quality attests to our brand image.”

Christophe TEILLOT – Senior Software Engineer at Hager

“With its incredible growth, the small electronics industry is increasingly looking for both low consuming GUI combined with impressive performance on a very low footprint. When NXP had chosen our Vivante GCNanoLite-V IP to build their next gen i.MX-RT MCU, MICROEJ VEE was the obvious natural one-device platform, as our combined technologies follow the same cost-oriented logic and address the same markets.”

Jarmon David, Sr. VP Worldwide Sales and Business Development at Verisilicon

Sologenic reveals “Coreum”: A Fast, Interoperable and Scalable Layer-1 Smart Blockchain with Low Transaction Cost and Carbon Footprint

The Sologenic Development Foundation reveals prime information about a new layer-1 blockchain built to serve as a core infrastructure for the future of decentralized applications.

TALLINN, Estonia, Dec. 20, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — The Sologenic Development Foundation announced “Coreum”, a new Layer-1 Blockchain being built to improve many weaknesses present on current Blockchain networks and provide developers with an essential infrastructure to develop decentralized apps, from asset tokenizations, banking and remittances to DeFi, Metaverse and Gaming.

With no Initial Coin Offerings (ICO), Coreum is an open-source project built to be 100% community-based, allowing this technology to support extensive future growth in Decentralized Applications (dApps) and DeFi space within the whole blockchain ecosystem. The first round of CORE tokens airdrop distribution is scheduled for February 2022 destined for the Sologenic community and SOLO holders with the very first snapshot to be taken at a random time between December 24th to 31st 2021.

While many modern Blockchain networks are currently using the Ethereum Virtual Machine, Coreum benefits from the modern turing-complete Web Assembly (WASM) engine to process smart contracts written in many different languages and compiled into WASM before processing.

Among other features, Coreum will offer Cross-Chain Interoperability by deploying a bridge functionality, which allows other cryptocurrencies to flow into Coreum’s Ecosystem through the collateralized wrapping. This functionality is being backed by built-in modules that support a fully Decentralized Exchange with Synthetic Order Book functionality.

Coreum stands out with a block time of 1.5 seconds and the ability to process 7000 transactions per second when it comes to speed. Moreover, with a stable fee model, Coreum’s Blockchain is set to maintain extremely low transaction fees regardless of block size and network activity, so that the Blockchain can be sustainable and optimal during heavy load and no-load while the validators are always being incentivized.

A dynamic ratio of fees generated through each block will be used towards validator incentives and rewards pool replenishment. The remaining portion will be burned on the network, making Coreum’s economy deflationary.

When the network is busy, and transaction volume is high, validators are incentivized directly from the transaction fees. When there is less activity, incentivization is through a reward pool designed for low traffic times. This pool will be filled with excess transaction fees during heavy loads.

Additionally, with native support for the issuance of any fungible and non-fungible tokens on-chain, Coreum takes asset issuance and minting to the next level. This built-in functionality even allows issuers to customize their tokenized assets with optional features such as wallet whitelisting, burning and freezing for when it comes to the heavily regulated financial markets like Stock and ETFs.

The Coreum team is integrated by passionate individuals already creating a frictionless world by redefining the way people build and use decentralized applications. Some of the more notable figures within the blockchain space are taking leadership and advisory roles at Coreum, such as Bob Ras and Reza Bashash the Co-founders of Sologenic, Carl Hua, Current Chief Architect at Celsius, Ex-Head of DeFi Engineering at Ripple and JPL NASA Engineer, and Michael Zochowski, current VP at Valon, and Ex-Head of RippleX Product.

Learn more about the Coreum blockchain on www.coreum.com.

Achieving excellence in public relations: NUS bags award for College of Humanities and Sciences campaign

One year since the official inauguration of the NUS College of Humanities and Sciences (CHS), the publicity campaign for the new College has gained recognition at the recent Public Relations in the Service of Mankind (PRISM) Awards.

The University bagged a Distinction Award in the category “Outstanding Campaign by a Non-Government Organisation or Not-For-Profit Organisation” for the launch and publicity of the interdisciplinary College.

The award recognises NUS’ effective communications regarding the necessity of an interdisciplinary education to faculty members, prospective students and their parents, alumni, employers, and members of the public.

The campaign also underscored what CHS offers students in a world plagued by complex challenges that require integrated interdisciplinary approaches. The campaign included the launch event, student profiles, social media, and CHS collaterals and media assets in the form of CHS-specific infographics, news and FAQs.

The campaign also included a video series on interdisciplinarity, a podcast series by the teaching team of the common curriculum Humanities module, and stakeholder endorsement in the form of testimonials from students and alumni of NUS Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) and the NUS Faculty of Science (FoS) who have pursued interdisciplinary studies. A successful admissions publicity campaign was run, including the 2021 NUS Open House which drummed up interest in the College with student and employer panels, small group tours, and student chat rooms.

The accolade from PRISM, which coincides with the one-year anniversary of the official inauguration of CHS, bears testament to the concerted effort on multiple fronts of the campaign by various stakeholders, including the Communications teams from FASS and FoS, the NUS Office of University Communications and communications agency AKA Asia.

“The award comes as a truly wonderful one-year anniversary gift to all our colleagues involved in the CHS campaign,” said NUS Chief Communications Officer Ms Ovidia Lim-Rajaram.

“It is gratifying to know that our efforts to kickstart a meaningful, groundbreaking programme at the College are paying off, and that the journey to promoting an interdisciplinary, 21st-century educational experience at NUS is off to a great start.”

Communications at CHS is co-led by Mr Nisar Keshvani, Associate Director for Strategic Outreach and Communications at FASS, and Ms Janice Quah, Associate Director for Corporate Communications at FoS.

“The campaign award, a result of the synergy and collaboration across diverse University faculties and departments, epitomises the spirit of interdisciplinarity that CHS values, and the idea of capitalising on each other’s strengths to achieve the best outcomes,” Mr Keshvani said.

Ms Quah added, “It has been a challenging journey but seeing our communications ideas collectively come to fruition is truly fulfilling! The validation of the hard work motivates us to continue raising the bar, to sustain the impactful profiling of CHS to students and stakeholders.”

Recognising the best in public relations

Celebrating 44 winners across 27 categories, the PRISM awards ceremony was held on 15 Dec by the Institute of Public Relations Singapore (IPRS), the only accrediting body for public relations practitioners in Singapore. The Guest of Honour was Mr Tan Kiat How, Minister of State at the Ministry of Communications and Information (MCI).

Acknowledging the challenges of a shifting communications landscape, Mr Tan said, “MCI recognises the importance of excellence in public relations and communications across all sectors of the economy.”

“The campaigns up for awards today show how all of you have worked around these challenges and continued to achieve excellent levels of reach and impact.”

Held biennially since 1987, the PRISM Awards is one of the oldest and most prestigious awards in the industry, celebrating Singapore’s brightest stars in the communications and public relations industry. It is judged by a panel of established business leaders and senior practitioners, recognising and honouring organisations and individuals for excellence in public relations and communications.

Ms Koh Juat Muay, President of the IPRS Council 2021/2023 said, “The winning entries and the winners this year reveal a singular story – the resilience of our people, the ingenuity of the campaigns and strength of the organisations that continues to thrive in an evolving local and global communications landscape.”

“IPRS is privileged to hold PRISM Awards 2021 and share in the pride of profession demonstrated by our people and in the brilliance of their campaigns. Our winners truly embody the meaning of PRISM and that is Public Relations In the Service of Mankind,” she added.

In response to the recent climate emergencies in Malaysia and the Philippines, the Singapore Red Cross (SRC) is pledging US$100,000 in humanitarian aid (US$50,000 respectively) to the Malaysian Red Crescent and the Philippine Red Cross, in support of their ongoing relief efforts. The homegrown humanitarian organisation is also launching public appeals, where funds raised would go towards the relief and recovery of affected communities, with a focus on emergency healthcare, first aid assistance and distribution of hygiene kits, shelter tool kits, tarpaulins, hot meals, clothes, mats, blankets, surgical masks to evacuation centres.

In the Philippines, Singapore Red Cross will also support a local organisation to distribute relief items including water, rice, groceries to 1,000 households across six communities in need of support. Psychological first aid is also provided in evacuation centres to affected persons.

Mr Benjamin William, Secretary General and CEO of Singapore Red Cross, said, “These disasters once again highlight the need for the global community to come together to address the causes of climate change and environmental degradation.

“We are supporting the rescue and relief efforts now underway, both in the Philippines and Malaysia. More than 21,000 people have been displaced from their homes in Malaysia due to floods, and the death toll from the super typhoon has crossed 200 in the Philippines. We call for the community’s support this year-end, to share good tidings and to give comfort to our neighbours, whose lives have been upended due to the weather disasters.”

The Singapore Red Cross has also activated its “Restoring Family Links” (RFL) service to assist Singapore residents to locate their immediate family members who may have been affected by the disasters with whom they have difficulty in contacting.
